Has anyone used Workgroup Manager with a non-Apple LDAP directory? I want to be able to use an already-existing OpenLDAP directory to store the important information that Workgroup Manager is supposed to allow. (I haven’t seen or used WM yet.)

In particular, I want to make sure that existing LDAP user account entries map up to OS X users, and that policies (like password expiration/changing policies) can be enforced on OS X clients.

Does WM let me do this without having an actual Apple server running Open Directory?

And can WM be installed on a client/workstation machine, rather than just on Jaguar Server?

10.2 supports LDAP or “Open Directory”, so try to see in “Connect to Server” if you can see the computer that is running openLDAP. If you can, there is a good chance that you can use that as an LDAP directory.
