ParticipantHi All
Just baked another image and for all the world it seems ok but when I first boot i get a dialog box asking: “Where is System Events?” and a list of applications that I can choose from although no System Events is in the kits so I just click cancel and carry on.
Anyone have any ideas?
Regards

ParticipantI must confess I nave had this before when building monolithic images but never followed through with a full diagnostic to find the cause but in this case it has only surfaced after adding a few things at once that were not in the catalog before. they are the latest Mbox drivers, Cisco VPN client (which was a failure anyhow and I’m going to leave it out as the OS does just fine IMHO), Second Life Client/Player and 64 Bit HandBrake. I added all these in one hit and didn’t re-package them but threw caution to the wind and used the DMG files that they came in (thought I’d live life on the edge and taste the coolaid). I’m picking one of them is the culprit and I’ll go through the elimination process tomorrow and find out all things being equal. Despite the dialog box it appears to have no negative effect on the image (unless someone can point one out of course!). Hope this helps.

Participantoh and I’m baking 10.6.5 but I’ve had this with 6.2 – 6.4 when creating monolithic images.

Thanks but it’s not in the list of apps that the dialog box offers and there are no options to search and/or locate. I need to find which app is causing it and work out why and how to fix it.

Participantwell it seems as though i had it all wrong as i can indeed navigate to core services and make the selection. i commented out the latest additions to the catalog but it still came up on first boot so… it’s a process of elimination. this could take some time as i need to have everything in the catalog. balls…

ParticipantI’ve seen Sophos Anti-Virus cause a pop-up windows asking for System Events. That windows had a browse button that I can point to /System/Library/Core Services/
Hope that helps

Participantthanks for the sophos tip. I do have that in my build train and on Monday I’ll cut to the chase and take it out to see if it is the offending app. I took out the last 4 I had added but that made no difference and sophos is next in the build sequence. I’ll report back on Monday.

Ok after a little waiting it was indeed Sophos that has been causing the issue with the “Where is system events” dialog box etc. I took it out of the build train and hey presto, problem fixed. Thanks for that. As I stated above I had the same problem with the monolithic images I made for for this year so it’s been a thorn in my side for the whole damn year. Now I need to make a package for Sophos that doesn’t do it! back to the drawing board… If anyone has a Sophos installer solution that works with instadmg please sing out. Meanwhile i’ll soldier on.

Participantthis refers to the google link in the post but i cant quote it as the site thinks it’s spam…
Well I had a little look see at this link and oh how I laughed. The best response from Sophos dev team being “The issue is an Apple issue, and we are not the only piece of software which will trigger it. Well that makes it alright then… A bit like a few of our Toyotas are bursting into flames bit it’s ok as a few Fords are doing it too.
Anyway they do say there are two fixes coming our way, one a quick fix, update soonish and another total fix in a major release somewhere down the line. I guess we wait or use another product.

ParticipantInteresting…I have a script that I run completely separate from Insta-DMG. The script sets a machine up for a user. It gets their names and such sets their user account up and installs sophos. I’ve gotten the same error the first time i log into the new account. I always thought it was from creating the account funny. I’d always push cancel and everything thing worked fine. I’m testing now to see if it is actually sophos that’s creating the problem.
Update:
Yeah So it is Sophos haha. In my case I’m just installing it from the command line on a live system…I’d always pressed cancel and it seemed to work ok…Hopefully they release an update soon.Update #2:
If it helps…I just found out that if I create the user account and then log into it at least once when I run the sophos install I don’t get prompted for the the system events.November 22, 2010 at 9:13 pm #379985tristan_mason
ParticipantI’m thinking the i’ll use ARD to push out Sophos and Deep Freeze post imaging and deployment. When Sophos provides us with an update that works then i’ll be able to pop it in the instaDMG build train. we live in hope…
Cheers
