I have had great luck using package manifests and creating my own plists for use with MCX. I have an issue though. I have many groups (mostly for reasons I have no control over so cleaning house is not an option I’m afraid). When I create a new plist I need to duplicate it manually for each computer group. This can be tedious with an extensive plists like Safari’s. Is there a way to duplicate a plist across machine groups -or- where are the plists are stored so I can copy the desired file to the other groups more easily?

    thanks.

Use nested computer groups so you don’t have to duplicate things.

that’d be a good project for sure. the groups were created before my tenure and have multiplied to 36. very annoying as its for printing only.

I’ll second that, create groups specifically for mcx, nest the other group in those.

But to actually answer your question it’s my understanding that the plist data is stored in the LDAP database as binary data. You can view this via dscl, workgroup manager via the inspector panel or an LDAP tool. The inspector should allow copy and paste of mcx data, as does an LDAP tool such as Apache Directory studio.

Work on cleaning up the groups, i feel your pain I have 76 groups the result of organic not fully planned growth.
