I have been trying to adjust group permissions on folders for my users. I note that I can specify groups that are either in the local domain or in the LDAP domain. What are the implications for groups created in the Local domain versus the LDAP domain? Which ones do I want to specify for various purposes?
My particular issue is that I have two directories at root level that are network mounted. All my users need to see the User directory, but a subgroup also needs access to a second folder. I have tried to set the group permission on the folder of interest and have included the users I want in the group. However, it doesn’t work. So, here I am trying to learn how permissions should work on server. (I have done similar things when working with peer to peer networked machines without problems.)
