What are the.FBCLockFolder etc

What are the .FBCLockfolder, .FBCIndex, .FBCSemaphorefile, .DS_Store?
What are they doing?
Why have they appeared on my computer?(OSX 10.1.5)
Should I try to get rid of them?

These are files and folders used by the Find By Content indexer, the process that indexes the contents of the files on your hd.

.DS_Store is something like Directory System Store; it is used by the Finder to store information about the properties of the directory in which it is contained. View by pref, sort order, etc.

You must be looking at these in terminal, because they should be invisible by default.
