Web-based file sharing?

Anyone using or know of a good way to offer web-based file sharing for a good number of users? What I’m looking for:
– simple to use
– can handle 10,000 users
– ldap authentication
– automatic setup -optional (i.e. I don’t want to setup access information for each student)
– sends passwords securely (either secure connection or encrypted password)

Why? I want our University students to have one method of accessing their network files and I don’t want to require a certain platform or application.
