    10.5 Xserve – OpenDirectory
After upgrade to Leopard on Xserve all of the HTML pages served take 5 to 10 times longer to download from the Xserve when using a Mac client machine than on a PC. Tests were done accessing the same files, same time of day. The version of OS or HD setup on either the Mac or the PC makes no difference.
Example: webpage takes 17 seconds on Mac, 1 sec on PC. I have even seen pages come down to the Mac in 1 min while taking only a few seconds on a PC. These are not complex pages. When trying to access Flash content it only gets worse.
General file transfer on LAN is normal.

Never seen or heard of anything like this. I would appreciate any thoughts, suggestions.

    RESOLVED:
I love it when people post solutions to problems.
It turns out that the Safari 3.1.1 update did the trick. The older version of Safari was not only affecting load time in Safari but also was playing havoc with every other web browser that was installed on each Mac.
    😀

Safari upgrades will only affect those browsers which link against the WebKit framework.

The newest version includes an optional “Develop” menu which will let you view a timeline of every page load, thereby allowing you to see where WebKit is spending the most time transferring and/or interpreting your content. In some cases it can even suggest means of reducing those times, such as enabling mod_deflate.
