hey all… quick question for those in the know… i’m doing a little work at a place that is using BootP for a bunch of OS9-macintoshes. i think it is only so they can manage IPs based on MAC address (which you can do with DHCP reservations). i do not yet know why they want machines holding fixed addresses.
is there any great reason why i’d want to stick with BootP? is there any great argument i can use to convince those in charge to migrate over to DHCP?

All the old OS9 macintoshes are set to “bootp” and there is supposedly someone managing a bootp server to assign the addresses. i do not yet know what would happen if i plopped a machine down using DHCP (like, i do not know yet why they need static IPs), or if I just stole an address…
