    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has experience with using Bacula on OS X? I’ve compiled the software and have the different daemons running. So far so good. I’d like to use Webmin for administration but when I start the services it returns this message:

The Bacula console command /usr/local/bacula/bin/bconsole could not communicate with the Bacula director. Make sure the password in /usr/local/bacula/bin/bconsole.conf is correct.

However, I can manually start the console through terminal and it connects no problem. I’ve also opened the appropriate firewall ports for the bacula daemons and webmin does seem to be looking in the right place for the files. Would appreciate any insight since neither bacula’s nor webmin’s documentations is offering any. Thanks!

    Hiya,

I’ve used bacula on OSX 10.4 and it ran pretty well 🙂

I thought that bconsole expected config files in /etc though? I’m guessing that webmin is launching it with a different config dir. Try copying your bconsole.conf from the conventional location (which i seem to remember is /etc/bacula) to /usr/local/bacula/bin

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

I installed everything in /usr/local/bacula, the cool thing about webmin is that it picked that up right away. If I go into the module configuration, it displays the correct path to the bconsole.conf file (as well as the rest of the .conf files). If I manually start the console from the command line it connects no problem… I’m wondering if perhaps webmin is attempting to start the console services w/ a different user id ?? By any chance have you tried installing any of bacula’s gui tools on OS X?
