I’m stumped by this one and hope someone here might help.

I have a Powerbook Ti that has lost its video (both on the LCD and external are non responsive) but it seems to boot just fine otherwise. I’ve already ordered a replacement, but I might like to use this PB as a server or stereo component, and it seems like a shame to sell it for parts. Once it’s started I can connect to it via ssh without a problem.

My question is, Remote desktop sharing is likely not turned on in the Sharing prefs (although I suppose the reason I can’t connect might be the lack of video) and for the life of me I can’t find the prefs file where that’s expressed after pouring through nearly every com.apple.*.plist file I could find.

If I could find it I suppose I could use defaults write to set the value to true, right? Anyone know how to do this and where to write it to?

Or is there some other way to turn on the Remote Desktop client via the command line?

This KB Doc describes how to use kickstart, which does exactly what I was looking for:

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108030

“Apple Remote Desktop 2 includes the “kickstart” command line utility. It allows you to install, uninstall, activate, configure, and restart components of Apple Remote Desktop without restarting the computer. You can configure all the features found in Apple Remote Desktop preferences.

The kickstart utility is located here:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart”
