My file server has been Tiger for a while, but I just changed the OD Master to Tiger (clean install). For some reason, the windows user’s can’t access & save documents to their shared folder on the OS X 10.4.2 server. They use an OD account to map the sharepoint, which works fine. However, when they try and save documents to or navigate the mapped drive the windows box (XP Professional sp2, with all updates) comes to halt. It will save and it will navigate, but it may take 10 minutes.
When I look in the permissions for the files that are on the OS X sharepoint, it looks like I’m seeing the SIDs rather than the names of users or groups. Someone mentioned that maybe I was having an SID resolution problem. Any clues? Is this a Windows problem? or Samba? or the way I setup the SMB sharepoint?
BTW, the sharepoint is setup with SMB guest off, no spaces or odd characters in the share name, strict locking enabled, and permissions assigned as o=rw g=r everyone=r (default settings). I tried with ACLs on and off for the volume, but it didn’t change the results.
