ParticipantDoes anyone have personal experience creating a Tiger 10.4.x Golden Master image via InstaDMG? If so, please are you willing to give any advice. Are there any PowerPC vs Intel issues that one should be careful of? Is the best course two DMGs, one for PPC and one for Intel?
If you are willing to share a Catalog File for InstaUp2Date, for Tiger, with updates, that would be wonderful.
I’ve been using NetInstall and Deploy Studio, but I’m a newbe for instaDMG, and feel a bit lost. And I need to jump in quickly and come up with a working Tiger GM.
Thanks in advanced for any help.

I’m honestly not sure InstaDMG will do 10.4. I know its been tested and supported for 10.5 and 10.6, but I’ve never touched it for 10.4. If you want to mess with it and hope it works, you could easily make your own 10.4_vanilla catalog by just installing to a base system, running system update and writing down which updates it asks for. Then, go to support.apple.com/updates and get the sha1 hashes and download links and dump them in a 10.4_vanilla catalog.
Not sure it’ll work, but if you want to try it, you could 🙂

ParticipantLast I remember, with a 10.5 host OS on Intel, I was able to get 10.4 Intel versions to work just fine (at least as far as my testing went). However there was no way of getting 10.4 PPC to work without modification. The main reason being I don’t own any PPC hardware, other than my mail server, so there was no way for me to test.
However, starting from a Golden Master image is only going to get you a list of things you want. The image itself is not useful for this exercise.

ParticipantDid instaDMG ever officially support Tiger? If so, might anyone have an old Catalog File that I might start with? Or does this all pre-date the InstaUp2Date feature?

Participant10.5 was what I wrote InstaUp2Date to target, so I don’t think that I ever wrote a catalog file for 10.4. I would have to scrub back through all of the revisions to be sure.

ParticipantThank you very much,
Being new to this, I find it less daunting to “tweak” something that works, than to create it new from scratch. I greatly appreciate your help.
I also want to thank larkost. I’m just starting to use your InstaUp2Date. But I am very appreciative that you did it.

ParticipantHey Turtle,
Certainly, don’t go too long without asking for help or advice. We’re always looking for people to help us figure out what updates belong in the catalog file for 10.4 and testing on different systems like PPC. If you would be so kind, please let us know what you still needed to install after using this catalog and I’ll get it checked in to the googlecode repository. Thanks,
Allister
