Although I was able to successfully install Mailman with the help of instructions on this site, I was not enamored with the program. In its place I am working to install Sympa (www.sympa.org) which has the MySQL support I was looking for. It also sounds to have very good certificate support which Mailman may or may not have. Finally it seems to have a very good archive search function, which isn’t as necessary since it uses MySQL so that could have been done through various means if they didn’t supply it.

I am at the final stages where I am to add lines to rc.local which I understand to be rc.common on OS X. I believe I am right that this should be done via a StartupItem but I am not familiar with how these should be done.

If anyone has an opinion on Sympa or success in configuring it I would love to hear from them. This latest release is the first that can run on OS X.

If anyone can also tell me what information needs to be done in Exim I would very much appreciate it. Looking at the Mailman instructions there appears to be quite a bit of work which I don’t have a grasp of.

    Thanks!
