    Greetings,

I’m trying to turn on OD (I’m not an IT person) for various reasons. I have one server, and a slew (8-10) of macs, but only a handful of users (4-6). So, making my XServe an OD Master was easy, and setting up some users was easy, but here is the tricky part. Can you make users either Admin users or partial Admin users? There are times when using Final Cut that you have to switch ownership of a file or folder, or have to trash some preference and need to be a local admin. I’ll admit that I have not read the big freaking manual on OD, so I’m trying to get some input from smarter and more experienced people here (wipes brown from nose).

I am the grand pooba of all our macs, and I tried to switch over my OD user (who is a network admin, and server admin), but quickly realized that I had no local Admin rights. How do you real IT people handle this. Do you setup your new macs with a local Admin account, and then bind to your OD server for your users?

Any input/advice/help would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Regards

    Hey,
What I have done is you set up a normal account through OD on the server. After binding the local workstation, you login to the user to create the local account and then login to a different admin user on the computer and than promote the OD user to an admin through the accounts pane in system preferences. This will allow the user to administer the local machine which is recommended for Final Cut Pro but not administer the server.
