When creating new server accounts on OSX Servers ( 10.3 and 10.4 ), my ( student ) users get the expected default folders within their account created .. i.e.

Jsmith

— Desktop
— Documents
— Library
— Movies
— Music
— Pictures
— Public
— Sites

Problem is they tend to hide all sorts of crap in the folders, and nest new folders like there is no tomorrow. I think my question is pretty straight forward, and hopefully easy to answer:

Is there a way to create several hundred accounts ( I currently use Passenger ) without all of those default folders within each student account… I also don’t want students to be able to open each others folders at all. Currently the volume where their accounts are is set for Read Only.. so students can browse each others folders…and that allows them of course the ability to get into each others Public folders… where they will hide and share copies of stuff like Halo 2 demo and RagDoll masters…. I assume if I set the volume to No Access.. they won’t be able to browse other student folders, but can still log into their own folder? Or will that lock them out of access to their own folder?

Hope that was clear…and thanks for any insight!
Quote by: macshome[p]The server home folder template is what controls the default contents. Really you only need the Home, Desktop, and Library for things to function. You can even leave the Desktop and Library out and the Finder will create them when you login.[/p]
Thanks,

How does one alter the server home folder template?

You can find it on the server using the path below ,its only editable by root, and be careful as the permissions (not ownership) on the child directories are also copied in addition to the content.

/System/Library/User\ Template/English.lproj/
