At the beginning of the summer, I disabled all student accounts in Workgroup Manager.

I also then deleted all the home folders from the server (I can hear the “uh-ohs” now.) How else to start out “fresh” in the Fall?

Anyhow, when I went to one of the student records (in Workgroup Manager) and recreated the home folder (“Create Home Now” button), it appeared to work just fine. The home folder showed up in the “Students” share point just fine.

However, when I try to log in as that student, I get “You are unable to log in to the user account “studentname” at this time. Login in to the account failed because an error occurred.”

If I log in as “administrator” of the local machine and then authenticate to the network as that same student, I can see the shared folders the student is allowed access, but their home folder does not show up.

I created a new test student account, pointed to the share point, created the home folder and logged in as the test student.

Clearly, there is some connection between the user account and the home folder? By deleting the home folder, I screwed up that connection.

Is there some way other than recreating all the student files to connect them to their home folders when I create them by clicking the “Create Home Now” button in WGM?

Using OSX Server 10.6.4 and Snow Leopard 10.6.4 on the clients.

    Thanks,

    Oh for heaven’s sake!

In my obsessive-compulsive nature attempting to hide folders from prying eyes, I set “Others” permissions to “No Access” on the sharepoint.

When I changed it to “Read”, access was opened up again.

I would have deleted the prior post, but didn’t see any way to do that.

    Sorry.

    John
