    Hello,

I recently put some new hard drives in my xserve. It was previously setup with 3 80gb hard drives raided together giving my only 80gb of storage space. I popped in 3 500gb drives, and attempted to do a software RAID during the OS X server install, but ran into some strange issues. Sometimes only 1 drive would show up, the next time it might be a different drive, but still only one, sometimes all three drives would show up and sometimes just two (this all being in Disk Utility within the install DVD). I gave up on RAID and decided to just install on a single drive. Everyone went OK and now that it is up and running all three drives show up and have not disappeared since the installation. I have a strange problem when booting however, I get the folder with an exclamation mark when booting. The server eventually boots, but it stalls on the folder with exclamation mark for some time before booting. I’ve tried re-selecting the startup disk in system preferences, but the problem continues. Any ideas? There isn’t much on the server yet, so I have no problem wiping it out again.

    Thanks,
    Tim

Try using the Disk Utility and repairing the disk (has to be run from the installation DVD). While you’re at it, try repairing the permissions.
Don’t know if you still have this problem.
    Good Luck, Robert
