ssl certificate on shopping cart directory only

Please excuse me if this question is dumb or has been answered elsewhere. I have been searching around but may be asking the wrong question!

I installed an ssl certificate and have it running perfectly on my xserve. I was initially confused as I thought I would be able to set up a realm for my shopping cart directory and apply the cert to it. I see now that it doesn’t work like that.

So, I set up two sites in the Server Admin -> Web -> Sites, they are identical except one is set up to use port 80 and the other port 443. Then when linking into the shopping cart I use https rather than http. Is that the correct way to only have the shopping cart secured? It seems illogical to me but it is working fine.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
