I recently migrated a server to Panther and decided to just try and use the Apple provided DNS manager.

First thing that seems odd is that the zone files do not contain fully qualified names.

Nonetheless, dig on the server and on clients looking at the server can receive answers to queries with fully qualified names.

But when one tries to log in using ssh, the log in takes place, but there is a complaint like:

reverse mapping checking getaddrinfo for brahe.bmli.umn.edu.1.168.192.in-addr.arpa failed – POSSIBLE BREAKIN ATTEMPT!

So why is the sshd trying to prepend the entire server host name before the lookup?

    thanks,
