Help……My first try at creating images.

My sparse images are not being ejected. Using InstaDMG 1.3b

Images created using 10.4.0 retail image and 10.4.9 combo update. Run G5 Xserve running 10.4.11

Even stranger, the first image I tried I had clearReg and createUser in the packages. This attempt did not boot when restored to a computer. I removed them from the folders and ran the script again. This time the computer booted with the user I created with createUser.

    Any ideas?

    Curt

On edit, Is anyone using a postflight script to change the name of the HD?

I believe to answer your first question, it has to do with Apple Updates:

Renaming the hard drive I use a launchD plist that calls a first time boot up script that runs and then deletes the launchD plist. You can’t do a post flight script package during the instaDMG stage because it creates an image based on the finished sparse image so it will over write the name or even mess up the InstaDMG script since it is probably looking for a specific image name.

I have tested that tip at the link and it works great. Sounds like it may be rolled into the next version.

Thanks for the tips. I saw the tip at the link, but it didn’t sink in at the moment – one of a hundred reasons why I shouldn’t start new projects on a day when I’m being interrupted every 5 minutes.

I’m really starting to see the how useful this methodology can be. I can easily roll in all of my field modifications into my images. I had already begun making changes by packaging where possible and using “send unix command” to make other changes. Documentation should be much cleaner also – or should I say being able to see what changes are being made without having to look at the change management file.

    Great work guys (and gals).

    Curt.
