    Hello all,

I am by no means a systems admin, but I am in charge of maintaining my company’s XServes. I have some experience, but this issue is one that I am hoping someone else has already worked through.

I am trying to run Spam Assassin on an XServe. I am using Tenon’s PostOffice to serve mail. My problem is, when spamd fires up, it spits an error (though it does actually run). Here is the error:

Could not create INET socket on 127.0.0.1:783: Address already in use (IO::Socket::INET: Address already in use)

I searched on that error message and found a post over at apache.org that mentioned running Perl 5.8.4 to fix the problem, however I am already running Perl 5.8.8.

Has anyone seen this error before?

I tried using something like ‘netstat | grep 783’ to see what is running on that port but no results came back.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks.
