    I have an Xserve G5 running 10.4.5.

I have three volumes, system and two 250GB file sharing volumes (ART and ART2) for home folder storage. There are a couple of basic niggly things I want to check

Two things I have implemented recently – ACLs for a directory on one of the storage volumes and mobile accounts.

question1: I’ve just had my AFP sharepoints for network home folders disconnect on the clients and server, Disk Utility told me one of the volumes needed header repair (I can check the results on Monday). Does this sound like it would affect all automounting home shares, including those on another volume on the same server?

question2: Do I need to have both Volumes checked ‘Share this item and its contents’ in WGM/Sharing or just that option for the folders acting as home directory sharepoints that live on those volumes? It’s currently checked and I have ACLs and Quotas enabled for both volumes. My home directory sharepoints have automount records but my Volumes don’t.

question3: The only directory that has ACEs controlling access is a sharepoint for shared files that I automount via login prefs. in WGM for each group. That folder lives on one of the home directory volumes (but not in the home directory sharepoint) e.g. Volumes/ART/homes(home folders) and Volumes/ART2/intake2005 (home folders), Volumes/ART2/artwork (ACE controlled shared folder) – does this seem OK ?

Finally, ques.4: In Server Admin/server name/Settings/Network/Computer Name it just has the server name as in Sharing preferences in Sys Prefs. e.g. ourserver. Our server has a reverse lookup FQDN: ourserver.ourdomain.ac.uk – should it have that in the Computer Name field ?

    Thanks.
