Software Update Server Data Duplication

Has anyone tried copying the data from one SU server to another while keeping both functional?

Here’s the scenario that I need to address in the near future:
a) an XServe G4 that is Internet accessible running OSXS 10.4.x with SU enabled and pulling down updates from Apple
b) an XServe G4 that is [b]NOT[/b] Internet accessible running OSXS 10.4.x with SU enabled to update Macs on an isolated Intranet…and no, I [i]cannot[/i] connect the two!

Is there an easy way to periodically copy the files to CD/DVD and move them over to the isolated system? Do you forsee any issues with doing so? Any specific files that I should make sure to grab and/or tweak?

We currently follow a procedure similar to this for our Windows SUS updates, only MS provides for a mechanism to do so whereas this will be a roll-your-own solution.
