SMTP /Postfix configuration questions & Relay access denied

I’m getting a "relay access denied" message when I send the

‘recpt to: [email protected]’ command from a telnet session into port 25 our mail server.

I’m assuming it only allows relay to addresses within it’s local domain or something but I need it to do a public relay.

Any ideas?

After changing our DNS names, and realm last week in OpenDirectory, I failed to overlook that our mail server, that get’s it’s OD info as a replica, needed to be redone – swtiched to standalone, then back to replica.
