SMB Permissions problem

I am having a permissions issue when Windows users logon to my Xserver running 10.5.2. Standalone server running AFP and SMB.
Users can logon to the server using afp and access their files and folders in sharepoints they have access to. They can read/write and delete.
However when they logon from a Windows XP Pro workstation using SMB they can no longer delete files or folders. They can still access the folders they have permissions for. They can create files and folders. But they can not delete files or folders. They get a message ” Cannot delete filename; access denied;Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file in not currently in use ”
I can logon with the same user from a Mac and delete. Has anyone seen this before?

Here are some troubleshooting steps I would try.

Mount the share via SMB on both mac 10.4, 10.5 and Windows, and AFP as well on the macs.
Look at the permissions. Are the permissions different?
Change the permissions on the root of the share and all contents to read+write for everyone.
Can the Win clients write yet?
Do you have inherited permissions turned on?

Turn off sharing on the directory completely and share it again.

Stop samba.
Backup /etc/smb.conf and replace it with a copy of /etc/smb.conf.default
Restart samba and see what happens.

Try to replicate the issue on another system.
