Trying to setup my first basic SSL domain. Read…. The Great Big Mac OS X Panther Server and SSL article….. Got confused at the openssl ca step. Other SSL tutorials don’t mention this step or setting your port to 443? Do I need either of these steps?

Joel…. can you tell me more about this signing of the certificate.
-policy_anything? literally anything or exactly as above?

I received my web server certificate from the SSL cert company but
what do I do with it? I thought I just copy it to my ssl.crt folder and go to security/SSL area of my SSL site in Server Admin. Click for SSL, enter my passphrase, setup the links to the 3 SSL files required and restart the web server? Am I missing something?

    Using OSX Server 10.3

    ……So, a couple of questions:

    1. where’d you get the cert from? This is mostly just idle curiosity.

    http://www.freessl.com/ $39 bones.

    2. What service are you trying to secure?

Ughh….. I think I am trying to secure our web server for the domain called avalanchejam.com only. We want to have a secure form page (https://www.avalanchejam.com to encrypt a credit card form field. That’s all.

Does anyone know a resource for the SSL basic setup something like I have described (a single domain)? Joel’s article is too advanced and covers things we don’t need.
