I have an existing Xserve that I use for Digital Asset Management and all of our art files are stored on it. It is also acting as our Open Directory master and tied to an AD system using the Magic Triangle method. We’ve prety much tapped out its horsepower so I brought in a new Intel Xserve to fill its shoes. I still want to use the existing Xserve to be the OD Master and run managed prefs, software updates and a few other services. The new server will only run teh DAM server and host files.
I’ve set up the new server, moved all of the assets and am ready to make the swap. The catch is I need my new server to have the name and IP of the old server and the old server to get the name and IP of the new one. If I change the name of the asset server it will break links in all my asset catalogs and links in our Indesign files. Baically it would be more work for my users and cause too many productivity issues.Has anyone had to do a similar swap? If so what steps should I take to make this go smoothly?
Thanks,
JS
