Folks:
I have a problem with my remote Server Monitor system not sending mail when it detects a status change in my server. It’s monitoring a remote xserve and when a failure is detected is just says ‘could not send mail’ in the log with no reason at all. I recall it used to work on my powerbook when I was first setting up the xserve, but have done a complete system re-install since then and can’t reproduce this. The Server Monitor app is running on a Dual 1.25Ghz G4 Tower (10.2.5) connected to the xserve (10.2.5 Server).
I have checked the Apple support discussion pages and there is a suggestion that the System preferences->internet settings on the monitoring machine should be set so that a mail account is entered. I have it completed these as well as set up a local SMTP mailer (Exim) which allows relay from the local host to the domain I am sending mail to. I have made sure the from address is the same as the one entered into the Internet preferences. Still no joy.
I can’t find anything in the (sparse) documentation so am a bit stuck. Any thoughts ?
..Iain
