I have two stand alone Xserves that do file sharing via afp and smb. When my clients log in via afp, they get random Authentication error messages on there Network Drives. Sometimes they can go all day, other times two hours. What happens is this, a red line will go through there Network Drive, saying they don’t have permission to access this resource. They have to disconnect the Network Drive and remount it. These clients are members of an ACL group. If I place them in a standard group the issue goes away. I need them to be in ACL group, because I need the permissions to be inherited.

I checked my Router and it’s clean. Not running SpamTree; logs are clean. I tried making new ACL groups, didn’t work. I tried trashing my plist preference file for AFP, didn’t work. I ran disk permissions, didn’t work. I ran the propagate permissions in the workgroup manager, didn’t work.

I’ve been working with Apple for over 8 weeks on this issue. They say it might be an Authentication issue. They suggested I either promote one of the file servers to a Open Directory Master, or set up a new OD master and have both file servers Authenticate off that instead of locally.

Has any one seen this issue before? Do you think there suggestion is on the right track? Any other ideas?
