    Hi everyone…

I am a new participant, I hope that you can share your wisdom with me…. he he he.

I have a Dual 1.33 G4 XServe that I am running Server 10.4.7 on. I am using the server for File sharing and backup. I’ve installed 4- 400 gB drives in the system, and have created volumes on each drive. I have created groups and individual users with the appropriate permissions to be able to log onto the volumes.

Here’s the problemm I am having- I am experienceing Hard crashes during the copy process to the Xserve. The computer stops fnctioning and puts op that great old message of “Your computer needs to be restarted, hold the power button down….” . You know the window with all the different languages. Ugly.

I am looking for solutions. I’ve replaced the RAM, gone back to the original APPLE/Samsung RAM, reset the PMU, and treid a few other things- reseating stuff primarily.

Wondering if any of you have any other suggestions. The computer does not seem to go into Auto-Reboot when this happens, which is why I reset the PMU.

What is the best RAM utility to check it? I’ve seen Memtester mentioned here….

    Thanks in Advance!

Third party RAM is always your fist check. I see nothing but issues with certain RAM, to the point where we only recommend certain RAM that we trust. If it still crashes with the original Apple RAM, it could drive problem if the copying is causing the kernel panic… Can you copy from drive to drive from the server itself?
