Various machines (eMacs, G4 imacs, G4 iBooks) On a restart any user can login, authenticate to the LDAP and get a network home, with no problems. They logout and a second user attempts to login without restarting and it will usually fail with no error. Login window buttons go gray like it is trying to login but never does, will sit there forever. If you bring up the shutdown menu by hitting the power button on the ibooks or control-eject on the desktops, you can restart or shutdown. Once the machine has restarted that same user can then login properly. Thought it might be a issue with the image on the desktops since the iBooks “were” acting normal but that was not true, this happen on all the machines. Wiped and reinstalled 10.4.6 and the updated to 10.4.8 along with other updates, connected to the Open Directory and the issue still happens. Created 3 new users without managed preferences and generic network home folders. Those users fail also. This seems to be pointing more and more to the OD or something that gets written by the OD (to the users home or the local machine).

Anybody have this or a similar issue? Help or pointers appreciated.

    Eric H
