Screensavers over the login screen

Apple have, frustratingly, never allowed us to easily run screensavers over the login screen. Although there have been several ingenious (Tiger) workarounds based on a recurring launchd item that polls for inactivity + no user logged in and runs the screensaver engine manually, this seems to have broken under Leopard.

Can anyone advise if there is a Leopard based fix for this problem?
