Root password problem

Hi, i tried to promote a xserve 10.4.8 to replica of my domain but i had this problem.
2007-01-15 09:50:20 +0100 – slapconfig -setmacosxodpolicy
2007-01-15 09:50:20 +0100 – slapconfig -createreplica
2007-01-15 09:50:21 +0100 – command: ssh [email protected] /usr/sbin/slapconfig -checkmaster diradmin 0 3 3
2007-01-15 09:50:45 +0100 – ssh command failed with status 255

Now i try to connect in ssh by root to OD Master but the root’s password is incorrect; I change it by WGM and terminal with sudo passwd but nothing, i can’t log by root !!
Do you have any idea ?

I can’t login also in login window, not only in ssh mode !!

I had simliar issues and booted off the Tiger Server DVD and used the Password Reset Utility. It worked after that.

I tried with reset password but nothing, I solve erasing the disk and installing the system ex-novo. Drastic but efficient 😕
