We had a major crash of our mail server (10.4 Server / Mail / Cyrus / Postfix ). After multiple attempts to restore backups of /var/imap and /spool/imap, it started reporting dberror db4 panic blah blah corruption errors and would never quite come back to life and when it did, the server would immediately go into non-responsive state.

So, despite our efforts to restore, we started with a new 10.4.3 server. I moved only the /var/spool/users and /var/imap/user back and things are back to normal, life is pretty good. BUT we have a lingering problem which is our inability to have users’ custom IMAP folders (subs) appear in their mail clients. They exist in the spool and in the .subs file but don’t appear in the user’s clients.

I’m not sure if I should restore any of the .db files. I’m a bit worried that that the source of a the problem might exist in one of them. So the question is how do we resurrect these subfolders?

    SOLVED…sort of.

After making backups of the annotations.db and the mailboxes.db, I moved the backup copies over, ran the repair on the databases and re-constructed user mailboxes. It looks like things are ok now.
