    HI There

I recently got our VPN access going – I can connect to servers if I use a FQDNS name or an IP address but I don’t seem to be able to see anything when I click the network globe to browse the shares on the network in the head office. My iChat doesn’t see the rendezvous buddies in the head office either.

Does anyone know if these are linked – can rendezvous data be routed through a VPN?, I read some where that its not. Is this the way its supposed to work, seems a bit pony if it is.

With VPN there is routing going on and with routers as well all know do not let broadcast like traffic through. So protocols like appletalk, rendezvous, and windows browsing will not work.

rendezvous broadcasts UDP packets (port 5353 I believe,) and isn’t really meant to go across any routing, otherwise you could very easily see a broadcast storm that in a network of any real size could become quite a headache (as well as making your routers and switches run their procs up really high pretty quickly.)
