I assume it’s the instadmg-relimport.patch I should use. But how do I apply the patch?

And does it matter if I try building the Lion image from Snow Leopard?

B.t.w. I sent you a private message with my e-.mail address.

I think I found out how to patch, but I got an error. See the output:

Regarding CreateUserLion, I tried logging in on my newly created user and it worked just fine. The only problem seems to be that the user doesn’t appear on the login-screen. I have to press “Other” and then manually type in the username+password.

Hey guys,

I’m new in a company and have been thrown in to “fix up InstaDMG for Lion 8O”, and there’s close to no documentation how the old guy really “did set it up”, plus I’m not even close to being an expert on InstaDMG (yet).

I figured out from this thread that I need to do some magic with the instadmg.bash program, and I checked the PDF documentation, but I must confess I’m completely stuck now.

It would be VERY helpful if someone of you guys could supply me/this thread with just a “complete” list of shell commands on how to get from the Lion DMG (already in place) to a DMG i.e. useable with DeployStudio or something alike.

I have complete prepared scripts to build Leopard and Snow Leopard systems from my “predecessor” (I did not replace him, he quit ;)), but they all use instaUp2Date.py.

Thanks in advance!

Hey LGW,
1. WIll your packages work?(try manually installing against a volume you’ve installed Lion on, but haven’t booted from)
There are instructions(minus using the -s flag which is new with Lion) in InstaDMG1-6rc1.pdf, please take a look and let me know how I could improve it, also please feel to join us in IRC(sticky on this forum has info). Thanks,

Allister

Well, there seems to be a ton of custom-created packages, and I’ll have to go through one by one anyway.

My main goal will be getting a running Lion system plus creating a local user, if that works the rest will just be work to do. If necessary, some packages could even be handled by the post-install process, as there are already some that are applied after the first boot of the system due to issues I don’t fully understand yet. 🙄

I’ll have a look at the documentation file and if I can’t wrap my head around it, I’ll hop on IRC.

Thanks!

OK, first: big thanks to Allister for looking over the whole process with me 😀

Current status: InstaDMG completes fine, but the OS does not boot (“no parking here” sign).

Information: I’m using new LATEST off the shelf MacMini (Core i5/4GB DDR, Intel only Graphics).

After re-imaging the partition with asr again, I figured that it might be interesting to see if Command-v prints any verbose information, and yes it does:

************************************************************************
This version of MacOS X is not supported on this platform!
************************************************************************
Reason: Mac-4BC7SD6SAD45599E

Wow. So MacOS Lion from the installer (downloaded on SL) is not supporting current MacMinis running Lion?

As I need to image exactly those… yikes? 😈

I’ll now test the same image on an older MacMini…

OK, the older MacMini seems to boot fine from that Image. It still wants to register and stuff, but it boots into Lion. No “no parking”.

That’s crazy. Any idea where to get an installer DMG that would fit the new MacMinis?

I heard they don’t come with USB sticks, so…
You can always just punt: boot a fresh-from-box new mini in target disk mode, pull off the cruft you don’t need and run createUser against it, then image that.
The usual warning applies, only restore that image to the new hardware please.

Oh, and what’s the build # on the new mini’s?

I just checked here, the 2011 Mini does have a newer build than the GM or the Appstore…

Retail Build: 11A511
Mac Mini: 11A2061

(sorry to be a broken record, but)

“Mac OS X versions (builds) for computers”

Still no MBAir, @golby on the twitter tells me its 112063, so, forked again.

What you’re suggesting is essentially the old way of imaging if I’m reading this right, correct? In other words, we have to make two images: one of the Mac Mini and the other of the MacBookAir.

Out of curiosity, wouldn’t the recovery partition contain a restore DMG that could be used in InstaDMG?

Hey bw38,

Conceivably, yes, both the mini and Air’s will be forked until 10.7….2? The difficulty is no restore media is bundled. Good thing the community spied thin imaging so we have a way of taking a straight-from-apple image and modifying it to our needs.

I’ve asked those with the new mini servers, and they see the server-specific AHT image but no InstallESD.dmg anywhere. Therefore I see no other way for them to get the bits laid back down on disk besides hitting the MAS again via internet recovery
http://www.apple.com/macosx/recovery/

So where is InstaDMG/SIU NetRestore/Casper Imaging in all of this? At this point, we’re able to make images for putting Lion on older hardware.
