Postfix and 10.2.4

I have installed postfix as described on this website but if I telnet to the server it connects saying this and nothing more,

Trying 127.0.0.1…
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is ‘^}’.

Then there is never any HELO conformation. What should I do to enable postfix on my server?

Just FYI: I was never able to get Postfix installed and operational under that instalation of 10.2.4 server. I ended up doing a clean install and install postfix before I upgraded any parts. I used Postfix 1.1.12 at first. Then once it worked I upgraded server, upgraded postfix, and upgraded Bearkly DB.
