So as a public service. here are the updates I noticed that would still have to be applied in 10.5.3 combo InstaDMG setup:

    – QuickTime 7.4.5
    – Airport Utility
    – Front Row 2.1.3

You can get rid of all the rest. Let us know if there are other setups that have additional updates (obviously this doesn’t include other apple apps like iLife, etc. This is just Bare OS Updates

Java for Mac OS X Update 1, version 1.0 is also visible if you are building on a 64 bit Intel processor.

iTunes is also needed if you consider this to be part of the system. It’s installed with the 10.5 installer, so I consider this to be part of the system.

My AppleUpdates folder now looks like this:

    11 MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.3.pkg
    22 AirPortUtility_Leopard.pkg
    30 QuickTime745_Leopard.pkg
    31 iTunes.mpkg
    32 FrontRowUpdate2.1.3.pkg
    50 BuiltInKybdFirmwareUpdate.pkg
    52 MacProFirmwareUpdate.pkg
    53 AlKybdFirmwareUpdate.pkg
    54 iMacFirmwareUpdate.pkg
    55 MacBookProFirmwareUpdate.pkg
    56 MacBookFirmwareUpdate.pkg
    57 MacBookAirFirmwareUpdate.pkg
    58 iMacGraphicsFWUpdate.pkg
71 JavaForMacOSX10.5Update1.pkg (this is the one Patrick described is for Intel 64 bit only)

Why is your numbering system so unusual?

In my process of figuring out which update should be in what order, before reading about in these forums, that I could simply read the Software Update Log, I was trying all sorts of things. So I eventually grouped certain updates with numbers.

I also maintain a setup where iLife is part of the AppleUpdates, and these packages are somewhere in between.

I missed a list like this, when I began this jurney, so I posted my confirmed-to-be-working list. At least it does not contain obsolete updates.

I’m trying this now based on what you guys posted above.

    I’m using a Mac Pro January 2008 model – 2 x 2.8Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon to create the image.

This came with “OEM” 10.5.2 gray DVD’s. However, I’m using the 10.5 retail DVD to create the image.

    InstallerChoices.xml contains the following:

    PrinterDriversGroup
    AdditionalFonts
    LanguageTranslations

    Then in AppleUpdates I have
    1 – MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.3.pkg
    2 – QuickTime745_Leopard.pkg
    3 – FrontRowUpdate2.1.3.pkg
    4 – AirPortUtility_Leopard.pkg
    5 – iTunes.mpkg
    6 -JavaForMacOSX10.5Update1.pkg

    In CustomPKG I have
1 – MyUsersARD.pkg – My 501 admin user, 502 non-admin “guest” user, ARD & SSH settings on so I can get in remotely
    2 – LANrev Agent.pkg – my customized LANrev Agent

I’ll report back on how it works.

    @Theilgaard
I’m curious how you’re implementing the firmware updates… I tried adding them to my AppleUpdates folder, but found that they were all installed on every machine I imaged, and not sure if they were applied. Are you having all of them installed (put into /Applications/Utilities) and then running the appropriate ones after imaging?
