    Good morning…

I’m having an odd problem with Snow Leopard server. I have a Mac Mini hosting SL Server with an external WD drive. The external drive has the “server data” as designated in setup. This put user home directories there and it’s shared out with AFP, SMB and NFS.

Using Open Directory, I have the users set to talk to their home directories with AFP. I have a Mac Pro running SL and a Macbook Pro running SL. Both are configured to do some network home syncing (the MBP is configured to sync all content, the Mac Pro is configured for only some folders). There are two users involved.

What I’m finding is that every 10 hours or so, something hangs and network home syncs never complete. They either get stuck on “Starting…”, “Checking ~/”… or “Stopping.” The WD drive is operating fine and occasionally shows activity. The AFP protocol shows as running, sometimes with 1 or 2 connections.

If I kill the FileSyncAgent process on the client computer, it seems to work later. If you don’t kill it, then you can’t reboot or logout, it’ll never complete.

Sometimes restarting AFP on the server does the trick.

I can’t really find any commonality other than all the clients behave the same way. I’ve assured there’s no DNS issues on the local network, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what’s going wrong here. Anyone else have this issue or can point me in a direction to look?
