    okay so the problem above was solved by downloading xcode 1.1 from apple developer web site.

    i reran the cpan command and everything worked well.

    these are the last few statements after running
    sudo su clamav
    amavisd debug

    Apr 4 22:20:17 iz-pocket.local amavisd[424]: Net::Server: Beginning prefork (2 processes)
    Apr 4 22:20:17 iz-pocket.local amavisd[424]: Net::Server: Starting “2” children
    Apr 4 22:20:17 iz-pocket.local amavisd[425]: Net::Server: Child Preforked (425)
    Apr 4 22:20:17 iz-pocket.local amavisd[424]: Net::Server: Parent ready for children.
    Apr 4 22:20:17 iz-pocket.local amavisd[426]: Net::Server: Child Preforked (426)

    only problem is when i test the system by sending an email with a known virus the email goes thru.

    is there a clam log that i can look at.
