I searched for this issue already and posted in another part of the forums, but got no response, so I thought I’d try here. I do appreciate your input.

I have a Deskjet 810C which we occasionally use to print photos. If I share this printer on client, users have full ability to set up the printer to print photos. If I share this printer via server, I can only get it to work as a generic postscript printer, which does not allow the photo set up.

Is there a way I can share in server either as the USB printer that it is (HP driver directly), or via a CUPS PS printer that allows the user to see the special set up items?

    Thanks in advance!

you could always try a hp jet direct port (299.99 new, ouch) which will let you print directly from any ethernet jack? I’ll be doing the same very soon so will let you know. Also I assume you have the 810 drivers for the sever as well as workstation? (I’m not sure if a 810 driver ships w/ OS X server or it just uses a generic hp postscript driver?)

Yeah, I am not willing to spend on the ethernet deal when this does work via client.

The USB 810c drivers (2.3.1) do come with server and client, though I also tried updating them (2.4) but to no avail.

I’m thinking the solution lies in either:
    A–
Configuring the server version via some .conf file to act like the client version does (but risk overwriting by the server GUI apps or…
    B–
Using CUPS-GIMP or HPIJS-EGS to provide local postscript, then serve that, then have clients use the right ppd.

I have tried the latter (HPIJS-EGS), but am not sure I configured it correctly and it did not print. Frown

    Still listening,

    Carlos
