    Hi,

I was wondering how much checking of regitration keys Panther server does. I’d like to set up another machine as a Server for some destructive testing but I only have the one copy. Since I won’t be using the second box for production use and only installing on a temporary basis this doesn’t seem like piracy to me but I was wondering if Panther looks for another box with the same registration key.

I can’t see how it would, but I did wonder. Anyone got any info?

Yes, it does check…..Just like Adobe apps, MS Office, and many other apps.

The safest way to do what you’re thinking about would be to set up a test network-separated by a router from your production network. By creating a test network you protect your production network and your users from any goofups you make and doesn’t interrupt any services.

    Hope this helps.

    Curtisf,

Yeah, I was afraid of that.

I thought of a separate net but shoehorning just the spare server out of my setup was hard enough – finding another three is downright impossible.

The really frustrating thing is that if I get all this stuff working right I get three spare eMacs that are currently wasted as Timbuktu ends.

I might have to go on bended knee to my reseller and borrow a key for a month or two.

    Thanks,

    Tony

Does anyone have any hard evidence that this check is, indeed, taking place? The reason I ask, is that I have exactly this setup for my test server and have never noticed any evidence that there is a check taking place on the network. Is there something happening that I’m not seeing?
