override local accounts?

If I have a user named joe in Open Directory, and I also have a local account named joe on my machine, is it possible to login as the remote joe at the client’s login window?

I’ve looked everywhere with no luck. The only option I can see is to make sure local accounts don’t have the same name as remote accounts. I already have clients set up with local accounts and want to create identical accounts on the server for future migration to network homedirs.

I hope that makes sense.
