We have an original xServe running 10.3.2 Server, setup as an Open Directory server and a Windows PDC. Everything seems to work o.k. but we have a few queries on three things.
    1) When adding computers to the Computer list, if we browse for new machines, only a few show up. All are running 10.3.2 client, and are a mix of brand new Emacs (seem to be visible) slightly older eMacs (not visible) and various iMacs (some visible, some not). Where are we going wrong, and what do we need to be active for these to be visible. They seem to be all identical. Adding manually makes the macs work o.k. but browsing would be nice.
    2) If we log into the server over AFP, we can masquerade as the admin user if we don’t know the normal users password, but cannot do this with the computer log on as we could back in the days of Macintosh Manager. Why?
    3) Print quotas for clients don’t alert you to the fact that you are over your quota. The prints don’t come out, but students don’t know if the print isn’t working or if they are over quota. Any ideas again?

Are you using a managed Hub with spanning tree turned on?

No, but as I understand it, Spanning Tree only affects Appletalk, not IP. Not sure about Rendezvous which seems to be used in the Computer list browser.

    Reply from Apple support. FYI

    Question 1
We are aware about this behaviour. Next updates should address it. Unfortunately I can’t say the exact date for it yet.

    Question 2
It is not clear what you would like to do here. Could you please state it step by step or state where we can follow this instruction on Admin guide?

    Question 3
There is no GUI at the moment to see that. The feature has been logged under our database (and a few others).
There’s currently two ways to access the user’s quota statistics:
    1: Job log (/Library/Logs/PrintService/PrintService.<queue>.job.log):
On queues where quota enforcement is enabled, if jobs are successfully printing, you should see messages in the log file like:
…Printer: “blah”, Job: “my job”, ID: 23: User: sally, remaining quota 14 pages.
    2: NetInfo
On servers where quota enforcement is enabled for one or more queus, use the niutil command to dump the content of the local quota statistics. In Terminal, type the following:
    %niutil -readprop . /PrintServiceUser/<user_name> appleprintservice 0
This is display an XML formatted block of data containing, among other things, the number of pages the user has printed to each queue or, if the user’s quota configuration in Workgroup Manager is “Any Queue” the total pages printed to all queues on that server. Look for the label “printed” for the number of printed pages.
Since only the printed page count, not the page balance, is recorded in NetInfo, you’ll need to know the user’s quota limit from Workgroup Manager in order to determine the remaining pages in the current quota period.
