i have a newly installed xserve at a client’s office. all is well with the OS X clients and (some of) the windows clients as well. network homes, ACLs, all the rest of the stuff i was worried about. the server is running OS X server 10.4.9
then they showed me the OS 9 machines.
these two machines, both running 9.2.2, can connect and browse the server with no trouble. they can read and copy files the network users have permissions to read. but as soon as the 9.2.2 machine tries to write to the server, the connection is lost.
i’ve tried a variety of things, including connecting the OS 9 clients to a different address, running on the second ethernet card, on a different switch.
i’d say i can downgrade the server to 10.4.8 (that’s what the install DVD has on it, i think), but i’ve just finished, as i said, this brand new install, and i don’t want to kick everyone off their shiny new network homes while i try to fix this. especially if the problem persists under 10.4.8, or if there’s a suggested fix out there that i haven’t found yet.
any and all help is appreciated.
