Open Directory – Migrating from 10.4.11 to 10.5.6

I’ve moved the 10.4.11 installation of my server to an external firewire drive, and installed a clean copy of 10.5 updated to 10.5.6 on the internal hard drives.

My issue is that the “archive and restore” functions in Server Admin didn’t work. The file has volume, so it must have archived ok, but the restore does nothing and provides no obvious feedback.

I was able to export and import through workgroup manager, but that doesn’t seem to be working well, and didn’t transfer the user passwords.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the input, I did try restoring the same archive back to 10.4 and it worked just fine…
I’ve since (in the essence of time) done an export/import through workgroup manager and just forgotten about the password issues.

I do have one other issue relating to open directory though… Everything seems to be working well, but because we are an elementary school, I have a list of all the students at the logon page. It seems to disappear and only show local users with an “other…” option after a random period of time. The only way it reappears seems to be rebooting or logging on as a local user and logging back out. Is this some sort of timeout?
