i’m looking for a definitive answer to this wrt 10.5 and 10.6

the apple manuals are very clear that you can’t mix 10.4 and 10.5, but there is room for doubt in the 10.6 manuals about whether you can mix 10.5/6 in a master/replica set up.

the room for doubt is that there is a table that indicates “10.5 and later” can work with each other but not 10.4, but in the text it only makes explicit again that 10.4 and 10.5 cannot work together with no mention of 10.6 at all. the upgrade docs only say that to go to 10.6 you do master first THEN replica, without actually saying if you upgrade one you have to upgrade the other. i think the implication is clearish (10.6 and 10.5 shouldn’t mix), but it’s just not explicit.

I am sure Apple would advise against it, and I would too. I have some Tiger servers that are “connected to a Directory” that are part of my 10.5 deployment but they do not replicate LDAP. They are used for filing sharing mostly.
