My admin wants me to look into having OS X clients mount the home folder from a OES 2 linux server instead of an xserve.
We would also want to have full functionality with Workgroup Manager (syncing especially)
My understanding is this: in order for OS X to consider a folder as a clients ‘home folder’ the server hosting the folder needs to show in the /Network/Servers on the client. In order for that to happen, the server needs to be in Open Directory. Since the OES servers are in eDir, we would have to go thru the whole OSX/edir intergration thing. Extending the schema and such.
Am I in the ballpark on this? Right now we just mount users homefolders during login, but that doesn’t provide the syncing fuctionality.
Thanks for any help
