    Hi everybody:

I hope you can understand my poor English and, of course, you can answer my newbie question.

    Rolling Eyes

I’ve downloaded an Exim 4.5 installer from macupdate.com. I run the installer and follow the instructions showed. The first error I got was that the configure file hadn’t the right permissions, owner or group. Well, I changed the permissions and when I tried to start exim with

    sudo /usr/exim/bin/exim -bd -q30m

    I got the following error:

cannot run initgroups(): no passwd entry for uid=25

How can I get exim running and avoid this error?

    Thank you very much

    Exim is installed in /usr/exim
    Postfix is installed in /usr/sbin

So they are in different places, exim doesn’t replace postfix.

May be a stupid idea, but… Should I create an user and password for exim?

yes, I’m trying to use exim/clamav/spamassasin instead of postfix.

I’ve been searching the forums but there’s no one question about exim and the error showed in the first post. An exim mac os x specific manual would be helpful, but I haven’t find one.

I think perhaps you’re looking for this article?

And if you’re going to replace your default Mail system entirely anyway, might I also recommend a look at ASSP as a spam filter?

Look for the 1.1.2 beta release in the forums section. Fribo has apparently been running it with OS X with no problems for some time now.

Thank you very much for the links, heavyboots, but I’m trying to install exim in mac OS X 10.4 client and no server. However, the links are very interesting. Thank you again.
