ParticipantHello All,
This is my first time using InstaDMG and I’m having some problems. I’m using Tiger as my BaseOS and I’m running instadmg.bash from an Intel Macbook running 10.5.2. The InstaDMG_Resources folder is located on the root of the internal HD (named Macintosh HD). When I run the command this is what displays in the Terminal window:created: /InstaDMG_Resources/Instadmg/DMG_Scratch/InstaDMG.08-05-14.sparseimage
Started erase on disk disk1
Creating partition map
Formatting disk1s2 as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with name InstaDMG

Finished erase on disk disk1
Finished partitioning on disk disk1
hdiutil: mount failed – not recognized
expected CRC32 $8C6FA9B5
/dev/disk2 /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD
Volume on disk1s2 renamed to OS-Build-08-05-14
Volume failed to eject
asr: successfully scanned image “/InstaDMG_Resources/Instadmg/ASR_Output/08-05-14.dmg”The process takes about 40 minutes and installs the base OS. Here’s the end of the log file after the OS is installed:
installer: The software was successfully installed…..
installer: The install was successful.

ParticipantMake sure you are logged into a user that has permission to read/write to the folder?

Participantcd into the same directory as the “instadmg.bash” script before running the script itself?
mymacbook:~ root# cd /Users/pfergus/Desktop/InstaDMG_1.3b/Instadmg/
mymacbook:/Users/pfergus/Desktop/InstaDMG_1.3b/Instadmg root#./instadmg.bash
instadmg.bash looks for the various important folders (BaseOS, ASR_Output, AppleUpdates, etc) in the current working directory. Odd that you’d be able to mount the installation DVD image but not access the updates and custom pkg folders.

ParticipantCorrect me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure you need a running Tiger OS to create a Tiger InstaDMG.
Using a Tiger BaseOS image on a running Leopard machine won’t work?

ParticipantThanks for the replies! I did cd to the Instadmg folder. For example: cd /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/InstaDMG_Resources/Instadmg/ and then ran sudo sh instadmg.bash. I believe I have the correct permissions since it creates the BaseOS. I’m logged in as localadmin and have read/write to all the directories inside of InstaDMG_Resources and to the root of Macintosh HD. Any other ideas?

That makes sense. Could I get a confirmation on that? Thanks

ParticipantRoger that. You’re calling /usr/sbin/installer (and others) from the boot drive when running InstaDMG. Apple probably doesn’t QA their OS installation packages to be installed by anything but the same version of the OS being installed.

ParticipantOK, still no luck. This time I’m running InstaDMG on an eMac running 10.4.11 (still using Tiger as my BaseOS). Now the process takes about a minute. Here’s the terminal window:

ParticipantYou said you’re using an eMac. Are you using a disc image of an Intel version of Tiger to attempt to make your image?

No, its a retail 10.4 DVD that we’ve used for our PPC images in the past.

ParticipantI think I figured it out. My bad, somehow I downloaded version 1.0. I’m running 1.3b now and it seems to be working OK. I’ll post back with results.

ParticipantIt worked with version 1.3b. 😳
